ITAC is a proud supporter of ID Safety, an initiative to help consumers and law enforcement combat identity crime designed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Bank of America. 

ITAC also supports the Alliance for Consumer Fraud Awareness, a campaign to raise awareness of fake check scams established by the National Consumers League and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

An important innovation in recent years is the development of regional law enforcement task forces that focus on identity crime. The creation of these task forces was driven by the realization that id crime often crosses geographic and jurisdictional boundaries. For example, the individual under investigation by the US Postal Inspection Service for stealing mail may be under investigation by county police for a purse snatching or a break-in. ITAC works with several task forces including the Metro Richmond Identity Theft Task Force.

Metro Richmond Identity Theft Task Force In October of 2004, the Metro Richmond Identity Theft Task Force was formed to develop a cooperative effort with various federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to address the growing problem of financial fraud and id theft crimes. The Metro Richmond Identity Theft Task Force is a good example of how regional and federal agencies are working together to combat id theft. The task force is charged with the investigation and prosecution of criminal offenses involving advance fee and split-deposit schemes, counterfeit checks, internet fraud, stolen government checks, id thefts and identity takeovers within the Richmond Metropolitan area placing an emphasis on organized activity. The task force is committed to aggressively investigating and prosecuting offenders, of these financial crimes, in state and federal courts.
